Call Your Mother Deli opened in Reston’s North Point Village Center on March 3, bringing the total number of locations to 19 across Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and Colorado.

Andrew Dana founded the deli in honor of his father, who always dreamed of owning one. Growing up, Dana enjoyed having bagels with his dad and visiting Jewish delis with his grandparents.

This isn’t Dana’s first foray into the restaurant business; he is also one of the core founders of Timber Pizza Company, a well-known eatery in the DMV area. Dana describes Call Your Mother Deli as a “new challenge” in the food world—one that holds more personal value than any project he has undertaken. The brand began at farmers' markets in D.C., and its first physical location opened in 2018.

While Call Your Mother Deli is known for its bagels, it also serves beautifully crafted sandwiches and desserts made with local, seasonal ingredients. The deli even roasts its own coffee beans, so all drip coffee and espresso drinks are prepared using beans roasted in Alexandria.

The menu features alternatives for different dietary needs, including non-dairy milk options for coffees and teas, vegan selections, and even homemade gluten-free yuka bread. Dana explains that all their homemade bread is “bee-gan,” meaning honey is the only animal product used in the recipes. Allergy-friendly options are clearly marked on the menu, with “V” for vegetarian, “VG” for vegan, and a small bee symbol for “bee-gan.”

“We say we want everybody to have a GFE, and it stands for a great freaking experience,” Dana said, emphasizing that this commitment extends beyond just the food to include the music, decor, and overall atmosphere.
