Diva Central Dress Drive: Helping Every Girl Feel Beautiful and Confident
by Kaydence Smith, Staff Writer

Diva Central has been helping middle- and high-school-age girls feel beautiful and confident for 23 years, ensuring they have access to dresses, shoes, and accessories for special occasions like proms, dances, and formal events—without financial stress.

This year’s Diva Drive will take place at the Reston Community Center on Saturday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. When students arrive, they must sign in before shopping. While parents are encouraged to accompany their children, they may not shop on their behalf, ensuring a personal and empowering experience for each girl. Dressing rooms and mirrors will be available to help students find the perfect fit.
Despite being called a “shopping event,” everything at Diva Drive is completely free. In February, volunteers collected dresses, shoes, and accessories donated by the community for girls, ages 12 to 18. Students will have the opportunity to browse through racks of dresses, shoes, jewelry, handbags, and more. Each participant may choose two dresses, one pair of shoes, and a set of accessories at no cost. The goal is for every girl to leave with an outfit that makes her feel beautiful and confident, whether she’s attending prom, a formal dance, or another special celebration.
Since all items are donated, dress sizes vary from year to year, but typically range from 0 to 24, ensuring there’s something for everyone, regardless of body shape or style preference. Diva Drive takes pride in making sure every student who walks in leaves with a smile.
The event relies on volunteers to make it a success. Those 18 and older can sign up at volunteer.fairfaxcounty.gov to help manage the shopping room, accessory room, or dressing room. Younger volunteers who would like to assist with event setup the day before the drive can contact latanja.snelling@fairfaxcounty.gov for more information.
