  • I live in Reston. Why don't I get a copy of the newspaper in my mailbox?
We send copies through USPS at bulk mail rates, and can only deliver to one route at a time. We have selected routes in both North and South Reston for now, and we cover about 3/4 of Reston mailboxes, with plans to expand as we get the funding.
  • When can I expect an issue to arrive?
We print the second week of each month, and typically this means issues are delivered near the end of that week. Depending on the amount of mail your mail carrier has on that day, you should get it right away. However, bulk rate mail is third class mail, so is not the highest priority.
  • Can I subscribe?
At this time because of our shipping rates, we cannot provide subscription services for our physical copies to anyone, but we do have an E-route. (link here) A copy of the PDF is mailed to inboxes the same day it hits mailboxes. If you'd like, email info@therestonletter.com and we can arrange saving you a copy for pick-up.
  • Where in the community can I find a copy?
We leave copies at Reston Community Center's two locations: Hunters Woods and Lake Anne. We leave some at the YMCA and Reston Regional Library. We also leave some at select businesses: North Point Glory Days, D1 Training, Lake Anne Coffee House and Wine Bar, Reston Used Book Store, and Commonwealth Chiropractic & Wellness. We are planning newspaper stands at several other businesses soon. You can find links with addresses here.
  • My friend/relative is in the paper and I'd like more copies but can't find them. What should I do?
Email info@therestonletter.com and we'll save you some copies. Include the volume, issue, and article.
  • I love a picture in the paper, how can I get a digital copy for myself?
Email info@therestonletter.com with details from the volume and issue and photo credit. We will probably be able to get you a copy of most any of them.
  • I want to promote my event. How can I do that?
Fill out the community contribution form or advertising form for details on purchasing ad space for a graphic advertisement.
  • I want to share a story about something that happened in Reston.
How can I do that? Email info@therestonletter.com with either the story itself, a pitch to write it yourself, or a request for a Letter staff writer to write it.
  • I have a strong opinion about a local situation. How can I share my thoughts with the editor?
Before you write your piece, contact our opinions editor at ezreston@gmail.com to pitch the idea. Already wrote it? Go ahead and send it over for consideration.
  • I would love to be a part of The Reston Letter staff. How can I help out?
We need help in most areas! We're almost all a staff of volunteers, and all have to pick up slack for each other when some of us get too busy with our "real" jobs and life. Please email info@therestonletter.com with your desire to help, and if possible (but not necessary) your resume.
  • Do you publish obituaries?
Yes, we publish obituaries for Reston residents, even if they weren’t living in Reston when they passed away. We charge $300 for an obituary. That includes around 200 words and space for an image.
  • Why is my QR code blurry or not scanning?
The Reston Letter prints in large-scale runs -- each month, we print, mail and hand-deliver 26,000 copies to the Reston community. During these runs, the printer watches closely for any misalignments or blurry pages. If they spot an issue, they stop and fix it right away. However, since the press is running so fast, it does happen that a small number might come out before the problem gets sorted. Unfortunately, we can't redo those copies but can assure advertisers and readers alike that any errors only affect a very small percentage of papers. If this issue happens with a QR code, our readers and advertisers can always contact us for a clearer copy or direct link. Advertisers can also have confidence that the codes are clear and easy to scan for nearly all readers even if a small number of papers have an issue.
