Tucked away off Reston Station Boulevard, somewhat discreetly yet radiating warmth, is Lantern House Kitchen & Bar, offering Asian fusion with a taste of Vietnam.
The reservation process was quick and smooth, securing us one of the two coveted corner tables inside. However, one pre-visit quirk stood out: you can’t view the menu online unless you begin a pickup or delivery order, a minor annoyance that seems easily fixable.
The ambiance strikes a pleasant balance: refined enough for date night, yet casual enough for a relaxed meal with friends or family. Tables are simply and elegantly set, with gold-toned silverware and menus presented on hand-carved wooden paddles imported from Vietnam.

We were greeted promptly, seated right away, and served water without delay. I could have easily made a meal from the appetizers alone, but ultimately chose the garden summer rolls and the crunchy coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce; neither disappointed.
There is a decent selection of beer, wine, and handcrafted cocktails. While mocktails are available, non-alcoholic beer is not—another minor gripe. And be patient: drinks arrive one by one, as there’s no tray service.
Now for the entrées: grilled pork over rice with fish sauce, traditional Pad Thai, and the garlic noodle “paradise.” Portions were generous, and each dish was thoughtfully garnished. Food service, although attentive and earnest, was awkwardly timed. Our waiter explained that the small kitchen sends dishes out as they’re ready—which, for us, meant one at a time. While understandable, better coordination could ensure that dishes arrive together, so a sizzling hot stone bowl doesn’t cool off before the rest of the meal is served. Still, the food held its own, making for a satisfying experience overall.
Ample free parking is available, along with gift cards, catering services, and private event options.
So if you’re in the mood for a warm bowl of pho or a stir-fry bursting with flavor that punches above its price point—follow the light to Lantern House.
