The stars were not only in the sky the first weekend in March, they were on the Langston Hughes MS stage in the production of Matilda Jr. Cheryl Dewenter produced and directed the show to sold out audiences. Steve McBride directed the beautiful music and sound, while Grace Yakubisin did the incredible choreography.
The show is a story about justice and fairness and standing up for what you believe in. Matilda is a young, bright girl born into challenging circumstances who connects with a kind teacher that believes in her. Matilda and her classmates, along with their teacher, Ms. Honey, start a revolution to rid the school of the mean headmistress Trunchbull.
Audience members commented on how it was hard to believe that many of these actors were as young as they were as their talent and hard work pushed the boundaries of what’s expected from middle school age kids.
The production values from the lighting and sound to costumes were first rate, thanks to the stage crew, led by Katie Parish, and the technical crew led by Durr.
We’re grateful to our public schools in Reston for being so supportive of the arts. Thank you, Principal Mizel!
Look out Broadway, here they come!
