Balloons are more than just decorations—they are a universal symbol of celebration, bringing joy to people of all ages. It was this happiness that inspired Daiza Smith to start watching “how to make balloon” videos online five years ago. Eager to refine her skills, she enrolled at the Decolovers Institute, the first institute certified in the Professionalization of Balloon Decorations. For six months, she attended classes five days a week, earning her certification as a Professional Balloon Designer.
Despite her impressive credentials, Smith remains committed to learning. “Last year, I traveled to Barcelona to take a class with Carla Romina Finali, a well-known European balloon designer,” she said. “She is popular for her beautiful ‘deconenas’—dolls made of balloons.”

A Reston resident for 30-plus years, Smith loves bringing balloon art to the local community. Her creations have dazzled crowds at Lake Anne Plaza and brightened numerous offices, helping businesses celebrate holidays and anniversaries. Working with latex, foil, bubble, and aqua balloons, she can craft nearly anything her clients envision. “I love bubble balloons because their versatility adds elegance to any event,” she said. She specializes in centerpieces, arches, bouquets, seasonal décor, balloon dolls, and more.
“Balloons are not just kid's party decor. You can make art with balloons that create lasting memories,” Smith said. And those memories truly stay with us. Balloons evoke nostalgia and a sense of magic—something the world could use a little more of these days.

When we feature businesses in The Reston Letter, we are not endorsing them as a company or speaking to their credibility. We are telling their stories according to them. We want to give exposure to a lot of businesses, but that does not necessarily mean that we have firsthand experience with them as clients. Hopefully you will always have great experiences with them, but our job stops once we've told their story. We cannot vouch for them beyond that.
