The Reston Farmers Market will sponsor Nourish Your Neighbor Day on Aug. 29 from 8 a.m. to noon at the market in the Lake Anne Plaza parking lot.

Shoppers are encouraged to purchase extra fruits and vegetables during their visit and donate them to the Cornerstones Food Pantry.

The donations will provide fresh, nutritious produce to families in the Reston and Herndon communities while also supporting the market's fruit and vegetable vendors, many of whom suffered significant crop losses during a late hard freeze in mid-April.

Several vendors lost most or all their stone fruit crops, including peaches, plums, apricots, cherries and nectarines, as well as much of their apple harvest. To help offset those losses, affected vendors have been permitted to sell fruit from neighboring farms that escaped the freeze.

Purchasing additional produce on Nourish Your Neighbor Day helps sustain local farmers until next year's harvest while providing area families with access to fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables.
