Langston Hughes Middle School seventh-graders showcased their talent and thoughtfulness, sweeping the top awards in this year’s Rotary District 7610 Student Essay Contest.

The contest challenged students to reflect on significant decisions they had made in their lives or observed in their communities. Essays were evaluated using Rotary’s Four-Way Test, which encourages consideration of truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefit to all when making decisions.

The top three prizes went to Maeve Patterson, first place; Entisar Hamza, second; and Samantha Kowalczyk, third. Max Evans, Roman Farmer, Drew Fineberg, Logan Hill, Ava Klein, Alison Korb, and Irina Sendich earned distinguished citations for their essays.
